Eldir

Domain: Innocence, Charity, Vigilance, Honor   Symbol: Golden Hexagon   Eldir is known throughout Balfadore as a protector of the weak, sick, elderly, and helpless. She is often invoked in tales of folk heroes who commit acts of bravery to protect children and help the ill-fated. In many of these stories, she protects the pious on long journeys through volatile and wild lands. Eldir is often invoked by warriors and adventurers who combat forces of evil in the hopes of finding glory in the next life as a reward for their honorable actions. As such, most Eldirites live by a code of honor either handed down through their temple's priests or a personal code developed on their own.   Though Eldir rarely appears in a physical form or intervenes directly. She instead acts as a spiritual guide embodying empathy and the innate compulsion to protect and value life. However, some sacred texts describe her as being cloaked in long, grey robes with tapered panels and a high collar that hide her visage. Some even say that her head is a actually a translucent, glowing orb of amber, shining as a beacon to those who seek her moral guidance and blinding those who would do harm to the innocent. She is always portrayed in statuary as wielding a great staff with a hippocrepiform at one end.   Eldir is regarded as a neutral entity, but followers will always lean toward social morality regardless of law or social structure. This may lead some to believe that Eldir is a force for chaos, but it is more commonly the case that the laws of the land may be in violation of rights that Eldirites consider sacrosanct.
