Ireena Kolyana

Ireena is a human woman from the Village of Barovia. She is also the spiritual reincarnation of a woman named Tatyana with whom Strahd is in love. After a series of supernatural occurrences, her brother Ismark Kolyana contracted the party to keep her safe.

Personality

Ireena is much more cheerful than the average Barovian. Though often timid, she gets along especially well with children. Very curious, Ireena loves to read, and longs for a life outside of her village and the valley. Despite this, her uneasiness about Strahd has left her confused about her importance and her place in Barovia. She seemingly enjoyed traveling with the party, as their friendship and antics provided new experiences for her.

Abilities

Ireena was trained in two-handed longsword fighting by Ismark at a young age in an effort to make sure she could defend herself. Ireena is capable with her signature sword, Amintire, but has not had much experience outside of sparring with her older brother.
Additionally, she appears to have the ability to somewhat sense Strahd's presence. Whether he directly causes or allows this sense is unknown.

Tatyana and History with Strahd

Ireena seemed largely unaware of her past lives, though she felt a connection to Strahd, and seemingly spoke to or received messages from him from time to time, which she kept secret. At some point in her youth, Strahd saved Ireena from a group of bandits pillaging the Burgomaster Mansion, slaughtering the bandits after Ireena allowed him into her home. Ireena feels that she has some sort of connection to Strahd, though she cannot place what it is or why. She claims that sometimes she can feel his presence, and remembers interactions with him that never happened.
A few weeks before the party's arrival in Barovia, The Phantom Knight began approaching the Burgomaster Mansion every Saturday night, asking for "the lady of the house." This caused Ismark to decide to send Ireena to live with their cousin Izek in the city of Vallaki. When the party was hired, they spoke to the Knight, and heard him ask for a woman named Tatyana. After defeating the Knight, the party began escorting Ireena to Vallaki.
At the battle of the Old Durst Mill, Ireena was nearly strangled to death by vines controlled by Marge Wormfinger. This prompted Strahd to appear in person, slaughtering Marge and saving Ireena, as well as the rest of the party.

The Vallaki Plot

Ireena accompanied the party to Vallaki, and stayed with Lady Wachter after she and her cousin Izek Blinsky became wanted by the Baron for association with the party. There, Ireena became enamored with a man named Vasili von Holtz, a friend from her childhood. Ireena began to feel distant from the party, worried that they didn't trust her, and grew scared that she was still a magnet for Strahd's attention.
Strahd seemed to anticipate this, turning the doubts of the party and Ireena against each other. He had one of his brides, Anastraya Karelova, frame Ireena for the murder of Lady Wachter at her celebratory ball, then provoked a confused party to attack her in St. Andral's Church. When Cordelia, trapped inside of an animated suit of armor, unwillingly struck at Cordelia, Strahd swooped in to "save" her on Bucephalus. Them, while the party battled his vampire spawn, he took Ireena into the night.
