Van Richten's Tower
Standing on an island in the middle of a lake, Van Richten's tower is a long abandoned wizard's tower that Van Richten made into a base camp.
The tower's original owner was a powerful mage named Khazan, who was once a great friend of Strahd. Like Strahd, Khazan once sought immortality and found out how to achieve it by visiting a temple hidden in the mountains south of Barovia. By visiting the temple, Khazan made a deal with the entities and became a Lich. After becoming a Lich, Khazan bestowed how he achieved immortality to Strahd, causing Strahd to follow in his footsteps and becoming the vampire lord. Eventually, Khazan would come to notice the evil in Strahd, start to defy him, and try to bring the vampire to an end. This would lead to Khazan's demise as the vampire easily found out how to bring his old friend down.
Khazan warded his tower to make sure he was the only one who could cast spells in it, as well as any constructs made by the mage would be the only functional ones in the tower. The door to the tower is magically locked by a puzzle located not too far from the door. Four stone statues depicting Strahd, his brother Sergei, Tatyana, and a Vistani woman stand behind a stone dais. On top of the dais is a stone sword with a sun on its hilt, a stone goblet, a stone copy of the symbol of ravenkind, and an open stone book. Etched in the dais is the following:
"A lover once wielded the sacred weapon.
Those that seek immortality are not worthy of the sun.
The truth lies with those that the land's fog can not contain."
The answer to the puzzle is:
Goblet --> Strahd
Sword --> Sergei
Symbol --> Tatyana
Book --> Vistani Woman
