Barovia
A world shrouded in turmoil and despair ran by an undead tyrant Strahd Von Zarovich. His realm is sealed off from Faerun, the material world, by a blanket of impenetrable mist that seems to bellow from the hills of the Sword Coast. People can come and go from the valley of Barovia only if Lord Strahd deems it so. The people fear him to no end driving them to and beyond the brink of madness for the mere whisper of his name can invoke his wrath. Yet, no one has seen him in many years. Those who oppose him disappear or befall a fate much worse than death. He is in complete control of the land for this realm is his and his alone. Those who find themselves in his mists tend to either die by his hands or become a permanent residence of his valley.
