Tales of the Ladies of the Wood: A Collection Children’s Fables
Three women of the wood. The lady of the forest had the power of foresight and seeking the possibilities of what will come to be; and her patron animal was a raven. The lady of the swamp had the power over history, recording what was and what has already come to pass. She presided over knowledge and learning from what was in order to move forward, her symbol was the tree both its branches and roots. And last but not least is the lady of the mountain, her strengths came in her fortitude and strength of will to ensure that what was ordained and prophesied to be; WOULD be. She would hunt those that would alter what was meant to be and ensure that destiny and fate were respected. Her symbol is the wolf. The Ladies of the Wood almost never showed themselves to the people that worshiped them. Instead, they would appear in auguries, dreams, and omens, speaking through the mouths of animals and in the wind that mused the leaves on the trees.
These tales further illustrate (you suspect the author was trying to appeal to the whims of children to alleviate their fears) that these ladies gifted certain ppl with the ability to shapeshift and over time because they lost their ways and had given into evil, their gifts became a curse. What these stories have in common is that they all seem to teach a valuable lesson of the horrors of this place in a way to calm the young and at the same time prepare them for this dismal world.
