Roaneida Academy of Magical Study
The Roaneida Academy of Magical Study has a long and distinguished history as one of the most important institutions in the region of the Roaneida Coast.
History
Prior to the great rebellion the Roaneida Academy of Magical Study was considered the premier institution of magical instruction outside of the continent of Felizeen. However, it's students and faculty were hotbeds of dissension and among the first to join the rebellion that started in Perendur. Because of the threat their combined magical prowess represented they were targeted by imperial forces, who unleashed wave after wave of monsters and magical attacks upon the region. Roaneida would come to lose roughly 60% of its male population in the Great Rebellion and the Roaneida Academy of Magical Study was no exception.Faculty and Student Body
Due to the extreme losses that the region and the Academy had taken during the Great Rebellion, policies were changed to admit women for the first time in the Academy's history. Prior to the great rebellion women with magical abilities were instead trained locally by the wise women (or witches) of their various villages. These witches were treated as first responders and nurses who would then call upon the wizard to the magical academy if the need arose. Now that the Roaneida Academy of Magical Study accepts female students the faculty has hired several of the most renowned witches to help inform and shape their curriculum.Gender Disparity
Currently the Roaneida Academy of Magical Study has a gender ratio of seven girls for every three boys. Most men are needed to work in the various proffesions of their home villages or to help defend against the various magical monstrosities that still exist out in the wild.Role in the Community
The Roaneida Academy of Magical Study is still the foremost center of magical knowledge within the Roaneida coast. Their wizards (and now witches) are vital to protecting the remaining villages that still exist in the region. Because of this they are highly respected, each village able to list several alumni from the Academy that have died in defense of the population. Academy alumni look forward to the day when they can heal the corruption that has scarred their home.
