This is what our world was before we, humanity, took it for our own. It was not ours, not completely, and I do not think it ever truly will be, for Barur still has echoes of the great fantastical past. This world is very heavily invested into a Dungeons and Dragons mindset, with names and titles influence from Greyhawk, Greek and Norse Myth, and the Forgotten Realms. In essence, some of these character and setting concepts are similar, but it execution and practice less so. This is a very high fantasy setting, where magic is a norm--at least least the presence and awareness of--thus, heroes and experts, manipulators of this magical weave and the destiny it forms, are needed to burgeon a society and allow even the common farmer a moment's peace. However, this world, as stated above, is influenced by our own. Thus, the map, the general layout of the continents and topography, followers that of what we know of, but in a distant past. More to come, I am sure, for I have been working on this for over 15 years, in some way. Hopefully this will help to establish it and its story continuity.
