Aidal City Hall

After outlawing the worship of Lathair and Megiana (and Hidhania as well, to a large extent), the devils and their followers defiled the temples of these gods to show their contempt and demonstrate their determination that none should openly worship the hated gods. While most of these temples were destroyed completely, many were put to use in other ways.   In the capital of Ardreth, it was decided that the former temple of the god Lathair would be used as the city hall from which the local government would rule. The temple was large and somewhat opulent, which seemed fitting in their eyes for its new use. It also gave a taste of insult to those who once served in the temple and it serves as a reminder that the old ways are no more. The fact that it also serves at times as a hall of law, and is where the office of Ardreth's head Lord of Law is located, adds great insult to injury.     -Maradeja Bidingsun, Bard of the Royal Elven Court of Silvermoon Forest

Purpose / Function

This building is where most of the city's government works, with offices for the heads of each of the important departments that are used to run the city. There is also one courtroom in the building where only the most notorious cases are tried, overseen by the Lord of Law.

Alterations

After all signs and symbols of the former temple were stripped away, two new floors were added and most of the more open areas were closed off and turned into offices. The main temple area was kept at its original size and kept as the main hall of the building, where people are directed to where they need to go. A large statue of the devil Dis is placed in the center of this area.   The room where the high cleric of the temple resided became the office of the Lord of Law. Its former welcoming and fun-loving nature has now morphed into strict austerity, emphasized by the harsh personality of the one who inhabits the office.

History

The former temple was one of the largest on Bastarre, enjoying a great deal of popularity. It was open to all who were interested in games of chance and/or competition, one large section of the building dedicated to gambling. It served as a temple for several hundred years.   in the aftermath of the Hellgate, the country of Ardreth chose the worship of the archdevil Dis, dedicating all to him. While most temples were simply defiled and burned, it was decided that the large temple in Aidal would serve a more insulting purpose. The leader of Ardreth at the time commanded a complete repurposing of the building, spending a great deal of gold to assure that it would be a pleasing dedication to the archfiend.
