Hellfire

The hellforges are truly a sight to see. Even the short glimpse I got convinced me that an army that is equipped with such weapons and armour will be a true force to be reckoned with. I know I'd hate to face down someone wielding a weapon forged with the hellish fire, and I get the feeling that many a foe will retreat to avoid facing the vile things.     -Anonymous adventurer

Properties

Material Characteristics

Hellfire burns white, but the dark veins of black that shoot through it mark it as something far more insidious. The heat burns hotter and reaches further than fire, and its smoke is a void-like black. Strangely, it does not do actual fire damage, meaning that those who might have resistance or immunity to fire are still fully affected by it.

Origin & Source

Hellfire is a material that was created by the archdevil Mephistopheles. It is created from elements found only in the Nine Hells and, due to its components and the method of its creation, it is undeniably evil. As it was brought to Bastarre, changes to the original element were made that adapted it so that it could be used as a source to power a number of evil and cruel devices, such as the Fiendish Chariot.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Hellfire is most often used as a weapon, empowering Fiendish Chariots and other weapons. It has also been known to be used as a threat to gain compliance or answers, as nobody wants to face being thrust into its midst. The past few decades have also found modifications, those who have access to Hellfire using it to power furnaces and even traps for those who might attempt to brave a foray into a temple or other place important to those who utilize it. It takes only a small amount to heat a large area, but that small amount comes at a high price.   Within the past year, a way has been discovered to use the fire as a material to help forge weapons and armour, which are then left with the strong taint of evil. A number of magical weapons have been created using this method, and the results have proven unpleasant, to say the least.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Hellfire is not available for sale. Only certain devils have the ability to access it, and they distribute it to those they favour for use toward their own ends.

Storage

Storing Hellfire is a difficult prospect that few are able to accomplish. Special receptacles that are resistant to its burn must be created, and these require elements found only in the Nine Hells.
