Morninggate

If ever there was a testament to the sheer hardiness and tenacity of a community, it lies in the town of Morninggate. Lying at the foot of the Frigid Peaks in Allsvin, one can only marvel at the determination of remaining in that inhospitable land instead of seeking homes elsewhere. However, it is not this that makes them shine above so many others but their refusal to curl over in defeat after the near destruction of their town by ice devils and their minions from the mountains.    They will forever be an example to others to not only never give in, but to rebuild in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.     -Wynth Onyxorb, bard of the Singing History Guild

Government

Unlike the rest of the country of Allsvin, the government of Morninggate is not at all tyrannical. The people work together, with the city government being more of a council than a ruling mayor. The council works together to make decisions on what is best for the people, and input from the citizens is encouraged and readily accepted.

History

Morninggate has been around since a few centuries before the Hellgate, being an important source of mining materials for the country. It spent most of its history in relative peace, save for occasional difficulties with Front Giants and the odd White Dragon or two. It was even mostly overlooked by the fiends when they attacked, being isolated enough to make it seem inconsequential.   The greatest trial for the resilient people of this town came around a century ago, when a number of ice devils made the decision to investigate the cold climes of Allsvin, as well as the mountains. They found and befriended (as well as devils can befriend anyone) a small band of frost giants, who suggested they make trouble in the town. The devils readily agreed, and they proceeded to descend upon Morninggate.   The townsfolk were no competition for the devils and their new friends. They put up what fight they could, but were defeated quickly. The devils satisfied themselves with tormenting the citizens, and the giants went about destroying buildings and looting whatever they could find. They made off with a large bulk of the city's stores, and the devils soon got bored with their "fun."   The people of the town would not let themselves be defeated. By luck, the attack had taken place during the warmer part of the year, and so they set about rebuilding homes and the like so that the people would have a place to shelter when the winter came. An envoy was sent to the capital to appeal for help, and they were provided what little the capital could afford.   The rebuilding began with the construction of communal houses, which served the purpose of housing all of the citizens so that they had shelter during the long months that it would take to make things right. All of their effort, save for what it took to assure that people had food to eat, went into this.   During the rebuilding, which took nearly a year to complete, the town lost only six people. They shored up their defenses, made the walls stronger than before, and even expanded into the mountains so that they would have a backup place to shelter in case of another attack. This even put them on to the idea of harvesting the mushrooms that are plentiful in the mountains, which not only added to their food supply, but are sold at a good price to those who enjoy such delicacies.

Geography

Morninggate lies at the foot of the Frigid Peaks, just east of the Bearclaw Forest. The ground is mostly rocky, with very little arable land.

Natural Resources

Wood is plentiful for the people of Morninggate, which is fortunate considering their town spends nearly half the year in winter-like conditions. The mountains provide them a lucrative source of income from the various minerals that are found there, making trade one of their greatest sources of income. Sheep are the most common animal raised here, with some cows as well.
