Dwarf
To most people, a mountain is the proverbial Immovable Object. They use "moving mountains" as a synonym for impossible tasks. For dwarves, moving mountains is just the first entry on their to-do list. While the rest of Bastion tells frightful stories of Goliath savagery and strength, the goliaths tell their children stories of the dwarves to teach them the dangers of assuming size is all that matters in battle.

Origins
Like the other non-humans of Bastion, dwarves trace their origins to an Exarch from the Crusade of Light. Grimnor Deepdelver earned his place in Bastion through strength of arm, and an unbreakable will. As reward for Grimnor's service, Alverion granted him domain over the Kem Boldahr mountains, all the riches contained in them, and a kingdom's worth of people. He then remade Grimnor, and his new subjects, into a race as stout and powerful as Grimnor's resolve.Meta Note

Culture
Lochlan
Immortalized in the tales of Grimnor Deepdelver's life in the, Earl Lochlan Mac an Rìgh (more commonly just "Lochlan") is commonly invoked as an insult among the dwarves. In early Dwarven culture it was applied to a person being arrogant or blissfully unaware they were in over their head. Over the years it has come to generally mean "a fool."The Unseen War
It's just some big acidy bug thing, or one of them rocks with tongues! You don't hear the pansy fenvar comparing wolves and bears to the Shix. Get in that hole, kill whatever it is, and get back to diggin'!The Vicar of Light would have the people of Bastion believe holds back all the terrors of the dark. The dwarves know better. While not possessed of the vile magics of the Shix, the creatures in the dark depths under Bastion are fully capable of causing dread and destruction. Some dwarves believe the denizens of the deep are remnants of the ; allies of the Shix. Others believe Alverion created them as a test of Dwarven steadfastness. Regardless of their origin, they have been a constant source of conflict for the dwarves since the early years of Bastion. That the vast majority of Bastion is unaware of this war should come as no surprise. Grimnor Deepdelver repeatedly held the line against hordes of Shix without a single word of complaint. You won't find the dwarves moaning about having to crush the various abominations of the depths on their way to further riches.
