Paullard

A white tunic, a mainstay and standard component of every military uniform prior to the collapse of the Old Empire. This tunic was commonly worn with lightweight pieces of wooden armor reinforced with resin, most distinctively a tall, red cork cap.

History

A distinctive period in history for the paullard was the final Great Catavarran War, where the Elvish Empire and the newly-formed Empire of Lights fought a series of bloody wars over 15 Elvish provinces that sought to leave. The conflict resulted in a devastating loss for the Elves, and is regarded by modern historians as the beginning of their Empire's downfall. Due to the grueling conditions of the desert at the center of the conflict, many elvish soldiers were forced to leave behind their cumbersome wooden armors so that they could maneuver in the desert, left only with the white tunic to protect them from the elements. During the frigid desert night, some soldiers are said to have become so cold that they turned the same color as their tunics. The soldiers were quickly described as Pauls and Paullies, and medics were assigned the grim term of Paul-bearers, a term which went on to define the job as it exists today.
