Layout
Vulkai is situated on a mountain slope, and is a large stone ringfort. Inside the walls are the longhouses of it's inhabitants, a Purian temple, and the hearth home of Clan Vulpos. The main gate is located on the south side, as the northern walls sit atop the mountain side cliff. Outside the southern and eastern gates are fields of wheat, while the western gate opens up to the goat paths to the grazing fields. In each of these directions are multiple smaller ringforts which are meant to provide protection to the farmers and herders from incoming armies. Outside of the north wall lies a steep cliff that drops down to the Redcliff River, which provides much needed freshwater to the inhabitants of Vulkai. On the opposite side of the river lies the Vulposi grove, where the deceased members of Clan Vulpos are buried. Other prominent clans inside Vulkai also have their clan groves nearby on the opposite side of the river, however they are smaller. Inside the walls live over 5,000 people, among which are 100-200 clans. The relatively large population allows Clan Vulpos to call up large war bands to war, which is why they were able to successfully defend against all Mainland attackers thus far. It also gives Clan Vulpos a large tax base, which has made the clan very rich over the years.History
According to legend, Vulkai was founded by Roin "the Red", the founder of Clan Vulpos. The legend states that Canon spoke to Roin in his sleep, commanding him to find peace in the interior of Psaracon after fighting in over 100 battles. Roin took his clan, and inspired other clans, to venture into the wild interior of the island of Psaracon. While traveling, he saw a fox running up a slope with an eagle in its mouth. Roin took this as a sign, as he had been in the service of Clan Yarin, which has an eagle as its sigil, so he decided to follow the fox to its home. When the fox found its burrow, Roin found himself at a fertile valley. Roin then set up his clan's new home upon a cliff side and went on establish himself as a prominent new Petrax on the island. The valley got its name, "The Red Valley" due to the sun appearing reddish orange when it eclipses the mountain sides at sundown.
