Yu Chen, daughter of Yu Asa, a distant relation of Duke Yu Xuanji, head of the Yu family, but are from a minor branch of the family, with little house power, but they heavily involved in the
The Wayfaire Guild, Asa is part of the management of the core wayfaire, and her daughter took more of interest in the mechanics and machinery of the great gates, from a young age.
Early Life
Born in the year 2921 to Yu Asa, an unnamed father, Asa was unmarried and had no interest in such attachments, but did want a child of her own. Like all members of House Yu, she was expected to school in the sciences and maths, as well as diplomacy skills, she took well the more logical sciences and maths, but also had a flare in handling new people arriving to Bavo'sand from new spheres. But it was agreed by herself and her mother that she enjoyed the sciences more so would be apprenticed to a leader looking after a number of the great gates to learn the trade. She could always transfer over to the management and trading as she grew older if she wanted.
To balance the logical side of her studies her mother made her learn to play music to allow for an artistic and creative side, so she learnt flute, guitar and viol, and found a natural skill with music and remembering songs, just like she did with equations and recipes for chemical concoction.

So her apprenticeship started when she was 16, she learnt the magics involved in keeping the gates functioning and setting their locations with help from full Mages, she had some minor skill with magic but not enough to call herself Artificer or Mage, but she discover that combined the natural skills she had with similar magic with her music she could create greater effects, still not to a level of a profesional full on Bard from one of the Colleges but was helpful in her duties with the Wayfair and Fulcrum to help put a calming atmosphere while she played.
Then in the year 2940, she had an accident in her final year of apprenticeship, as she was involved in setting up a Gate off-world, someone wasn't paying attention and one of the support columns fell and crushed her leg below the knee so badly that either magic couldn't heal it fully, and it was amputated at the knee. At this point, she started to use a wheelchair as her general way of getting around but she did use crunches and would often be found sat at the bottom of a gate to do the work required, the wheelchair didn't stop her from doing what she loves but she wanted to prove to everyone else that it didn't.
Now
The Masters of the Wayfaire decided to send her with the great expedition because she had skills in all fields of the Wayfaire, with diplomacy, with the machinery of the gates and with general knowledge of how to handle new contacts if any civilisation is found on the dark continent.
