Light of Athens
The Light of Athens was a militia group founded by Cherry Butler and Malik Frazier in the summer of 2070. It started as a small mercenary company and blossomed into an organization that could put the professionals to shame. After losing her wife violence in the western United States of America, Cherry traveled eastward. A trained militia woman herself, Cherry settled in the Midwest with the hopes of leaving that life in the past. Unfortunately, corruption existed in all corners of the world and she felt it was her duty to push back against it. After meeting a like-minded individual, Malik, the two gathered a handful of skilled combatants who wanted to make a difference in the world.
The group originated in the scrapper town of Redline, several miles out from Detroit. Their do-gooder status made them the targets of a smear campaign made by the Cerebus Pact, who considered themselves the governing power of the midwestern wastelands. As more and more people asked to be a part of the Light of Athens, they expanded into a group proper; one that was able to stand up to the Cerebus Pact and other powerful gangs that had gone unchecked for too long.
The Light of Athens acts as the de-facto law of the midwestern wastelands. Since their expansion as an organization, gang violence has dropped substantially. They put themselves into conflicts as mediators between smaller factions, and will begrudgingly work with some gangs in order to secure resources for the settlements that they protect. Any Cerebus Pact patrols or infrastructure that's set up outside of Detroit's walls is usually met with opposition from Loa.
Public Agenda
The Light of Athens seeks to see justice served to the wicked. They're lauded as the wasteland's best defense against the deep-seated corruption that's polluted the midwest for decades. While the majority of the group's members are combatants, Loa welcomes recruits with all different kinds of skillsets. Every skill has a place among their ranks, no matter how niche it is. Some members are medically trained and stationed throughout the wasteland as doctors and veternarians. Others are engineers with their own affinities for weapons or cybernetics.
Despite their status as a militia group, the Light of Athens is much more than the first wave of a rebellion against the Cerberus Pact. Their members are well-educated and trained in their respective fields. Scientists among the Loa are constantly working on new ways to upgrade their protected settlements, whether that be through advanced defense systems or tools to make farming easier. Members of the Loa are people who want to make a difference in a world that's so indifferent.
