Beckettville

Scope

The motivation behind building Beckettville

While in school for marketing, I got a bit carried away with a very simple advertising project. Rather than make a billboard ad for a corporate business, I started what would become a much larger worldbuilding project. I created a number of ads for a temp agency for the undead, or as I called them, 'recently revived.' It was a dark humor graphics project that got some laughs at the time, but I quickly shelved it and moved on with my degree. Now that I'm looking to reconnect with my creativity, I've delved back into Beckettville and stared up at the eldritch abomination birthed from that project for what seemed like ages before deciding I needed to free these stories from my mind and let them seep into your's.

The goal of the project

I have a lot of fear and anxiety. I'm working through a ton of it with an amazing therapist, but there are places where she can't follow and things I need to work out on my own. So, I created Beckettville. Expanding on that idea from college, I hope to make a world that can contain many stories in many forms. Some days I can jump in and write a short story about the founders, another day I might post a short audio news bulletin from Good Morning Beckettville, Beckettville's beloved mandated news program, and another day might just be a visitor's guide to the local park. Through all of this, I plan to explore my own fears, belief system, ethics, and more, really pushing my own boundaries in an attempt to discover and understand myself. I welcome all of your opinions, views, thoughts, etc on different articles, please feel free to question things and push back a bit, I'm incredibly curious what others are taking away from this project.

Beckettville's Unique Selling point

From a distance, Beckettville is a complete utopia. Everything the citizens could need is available for purchase, everyone has a job and a home, and there's plenty of down time to enjoy with their families. A peek below the facade reveals a dark, twisted world of biological reanimation, nationalistic conditioning, and unimaginable sacrifices in the name of power.
