Arcane Crystals

Crystals are a valuable thing in many societies and worlds, but in Belthuran some crystals are more valuable than accessories.

Elementa Infusus

These crystals grow in places brimming with elemental energies, glowing brightly with elemental energy relating to the kind of crystal they are. As a result, are a potent source of elemental magic, they can augment spells tied to that element or be used during enchantment. A popular example with those who can afford it is to have a forge with a fire crystal that produces constant heat without a need for fuel. Airships make use of these crystals often, but some Anrasha vessels use water crystals to help propel their ships.   Uses: Enchanting items with properties relating to the element, gust of wind, produce flame, etc. When used with a spell matching the same elemental it adds +1 damage per die rolled.
Akariss
This crystal comes in many different colors and is found easily around the various crystal gardens around the world. That said there is still some danger in gathering them and the process of grinding them down and turning them into ink has a cost. Akariss ink is the needed component for inscribing spells, often to spellbooks and scrolls. It makes for a reliable medium to enchant with as well.   Uses: Can be ground down for use in inscriptions, magic chalks, and wizard inks.

Catathyst Crystal

This faint silver-blue crystal is small and hard to notice in addition to it being rare it grows on silver ore normally. Once harvested the crystal can be exposed to an acidic solution to weaken it to the point it can be ground into a crystalline powder.   Uses: This powder can be used to replace material components of spells of equal value.

Weltriss Crystal

This crystal forms in caves laden with arcane energies often adjacent to places with a strong tie to one of the planes, such as near the Cairn of Corrosion. Thin crystals form between the walls until they create a web of crystals. If a person can harvest one of these crystals and maintain the web shape they will have a powerful aid in summoning creatures or objects native to whatever plane the crystal is attuned to. The color and pattern of the crystal vary based on the attunement.   Crystals with perfect facets or lines of color are attuned to planes strong in Law, while crystals with erratic colors and facets are tied to those of chaos. Shades of red are from the lower planes, while golden colors are from the upper planes. Those tied to the inner planes have more vibrant colors and show more clearly what plane they are attuned to. The plane of water will have water within the crystal, the plane of air would be hollow, and so on.     Uses: in summoning and binding rituals, must remain whole when used in a binding circle it and the circle becomes impervious while magic is channeled through it, but a successful dispel magic will destroy the crystal.

Chrysalis Gem

These crystals are highly illegal as they are gathered from a sentient creature who has undergone complete crystallization, they carefully open up the skull and find the very center of the brain which is the crystal needed. It is always a very different color from the rest often being, the shape is always a perfect sphere but the color varies based on their lives and the kind of person they were. Some believe that the memories and effectively the soul is contained within that sphere and that it is merely the chrysalis to a new beginning of life. Using the crystal slowly destroys it and the belief is destroyed whatever the soul of the creature was.   Uses: Reduces the cast time of spells that are over a minute. Each of these crystals has a number of charges and once the charges are spent the crystal shatters, there is no way to recharge the crystal. Each charge can be used to reduce the casting time of a spell by 1 minute.
