Flame Peaks

Geography

A major mountain range that separates Rhyderia from Arcessa and Escini forming a natural barrier. There is access to water in the mountains but most of them are hot springs. Despite the mountain being mostly granite with some shale slopes, the coloration is an orange color partly due to iron content but also due to connections to the elemental plane of fire.

Ecosystem

Most creatures will only go at most halfway up the Flame Peaks where there are fewer flame geysers and more access to water and prey. The higher you go up the higher up the food chain you go on occasion fire elementals can be seen wandering around the Flame Peaks.

Localized Phenomena

Flame Geysers are what produce the fires that adorn the Flame Peaks they are small rifts to the elemental plane of fire sometimes within actual fissures in the mountains but other times are invisible to the eye until they begin shooting flame into the air.

Fauna & Flora

The plants on the Flame Peaks have adapted in unique ways what is normally green is soot black with red/orange veins they grow year-round due to the constant heat on the Flame Peaks. The vegetation is not only spicy but filled with superheated water that instantly turns to steam once the vegetable or fruit is opened thus making it dangerous to bite into without first opening them. In many cases, the produce is surrounded by a hard pod that contains the heated liquid and must be cracked not unlike a coconut to access the now steamed interior food.   The animals of the Flame Peaks have also been altered by the presence of such elemental energies mostly in resistance to fire and heat and in some cases adding the ability to manipulate and produce flames. Wyverns and Hydras appear most susceptible to these changes producing even more dangerous variants of the creatures.

History

900 1A during the Reign of The Golden King the mad king raised the city of Eis'Lasan into the sky and in so doing caused massive damage to the surrounding area the two most major ways was reversing the flow of water through the rivers of Escini but also causing rifts to the elemental plane of fire causing the Flame Peaks to truly burst into flames. The rocks of the mountains had always been an orange color, after this event though the name became far more literal. After much effort from Escini, Druids, and the Draz Tyran the massive rifts have been sealed but the scars from the event still remain allowing flames to come out of the mountains in a much smaller showing of the mountain range's name.

Tourism

Exotic game hunters, scholars, and adventurers are the ones who mostly take the time to go into the Flame Peaks to explore as most consider them to be too dangerous.
