Nagarathi

The Nagarathi, often called Naga, race is a strange one by most standards of the world, larger serpent bodies but unlike snakes they have arms, four of them in fact. This race can live both in water and on land with equal ease while they are scaled their scales are softer and more flexible providing little to no protection. They were not always as they are now though and have had a hard time getting to where they are starting from the beginning with the lizard folk.   The Lizard folk live among the Emerald Cove Jungle in various places with clans and tribes forming their normal group structure preferring a smaller simpler society. One such group of these were known as the Cove Salamanders were one of the largest groups of lizard folk having taken over many smaller clans to form the largest tribe that ruled from the cove of the jungle and into the major riverways. This was until one of their leaders offended Lulvey, the spirit of the jungles in favor of venerating Nerphial of the deep and Oshtem of the swamps. Lulvey refused to take this lying down and placed a curse on those that followed that leader. Thick scales were the prime protection of the reptiles from the plants, creatures, and diseases of the jungle so Lulvey inflicted a curse that weakened the scales of these lizard folk to the point it was more like a hide but still in the shape of scales to remind them of what they lost. Soon these lizard folk were unable to remain in the jungle themselves and had to adapt more and more into the waters. After many generations they managed to tame a section of the jungle for themselves, Heir-lann with the aid of the kobolds they build a home where they could live and serves as the easternmost outpost of the Under Roads.   The tribe became known as Yuan-ti having a more humanoid appearance to their visage save for a serpent like hide, fangs, eyes and teeth. To reclaim what Lulvey had taken from them a large portion of the population attempted a ritual designed to restore what was lost, it is not known why it failed, but it did. While some of their features were returned, they lost many more, becoming the race they are now, while some of their kin remain in Heir-Lann seeking other options while the Naga moved into the cove and took it over fully.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Naga of Belthuran is an evolution of the Yuan-ti abominations, they have a long snake style tail that turns into a humanoid torso at the hips. They have four arms, the upper two are in the normal position and are quite bulky and large but lack finesse they can hold weapons or be used to climb or lift, just below those arms are a pair of thinner arms whose hands that make up for the larger arms lack of dexterity, any task that requires nimble fingers use the secondary hands. The head is that of a serpent often with a hood like a cobra equipped with forked tongue and venomous fangs.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

All races are kept at a distance, even the other scaled races, preferring to keep to themselves and observe what happens. They send out a few members of their race to go out into the world to gather information, but also remove their memories of home as part of the price of their leaving. They do have a memory of where to return but they are otherwise free to explore the world as they desire. As a reult of these methods nothing is known about how the main populace sees each other. Those out in the world see each other often as welcome reminders of home they've forgotten, in such cases, even those on opposing sides will usually not fight one another.
Alignment & Religion: The Naga are not limited to any one alignment however they do tend to have a more chaotic nature to them as they desired to leave their home while others choose to remain in isolation. No one has seen any mention or practice of Naga religion when they are in the greater world, they tend to respect the traditions of other religions and if they must venerate a god it tends to be one of the universals unless another pantheon strikes their interest.   Adventurers: Those that do feel a desire to leave are inducted into a special training program where they are taught what they know of other languages and are considered fact finders and are expected to bring back information of the outside world while giving as little of their own as possible.
