Ouroborus Engine

The Ouroborus Engine is one of the many mysteries of the world; it is constantly creating and destroying itself growing powerful then weaker only to repeat the cycle again for eternity. There are many speculations as to why it does what it does but the common theory is that it consumes excess magic in an area preventing a crystal garden or arcane storm from generating, or if need be creating one to ensure magic continues to flow. Among those of the Draz Tyran who have studied it they believe it is an example of the relationship of give and take that all life on Habrea has with the Arcane. It gives life then takes it away, it gives power and takes power.   It takes the form of two infinity loops made of small segments of crystal chevrons that spin in place as they move around the loop. As they move they grow or collapse even vanishing and re-appearing.

History

Some think this is nothing more than a sophisticated piece of art but it is so much more than that. Made by Balphdurin near the end of his life it has a mix of form and function. It was created by one of the best enchanters ever to live, it is meant to be a thought-provoking piece to other mages and so it was given to the mages of Escini in hopes they will learn from it and unlock greater truths to magic.

Significance

The importance of this item depends on who is looking at it, the Scorathi look at it as a means to learn more truths about magic as it could help them on their path to truly understand magic. The Tavori on the other hand thinks of it at best as a pointless trinket, at worse a source of heresy to be destroyed without understanding it.
