Prismatic Path

A reclusive monastery whose followers have a powerful belief, to see the world in all of its colors. What that truly means is understood more from their teachings. The Prismatic Path believes that each point of view you see the world in is but a single color, to adhere only to that one outlook lets you only see the world with one color. So it is the purpose of those who follow the Prismatic path to seek out new outlooks, new wisdom, and to grow lest they limit themselves becoming stale, stagnant, or in some views, dead.   The Prismatic Path stands against those who would destroy knowledge, obscure history, limit the views of others, or use magic to alter the path of others. As such they have trained to seek out the truth, uncover history, investigation, reading a person, and to undo the damage caused by mind effecting spells.

Structure

There is a single grandmaster who advises the Prism council who are all masters of the path who maintain their own monasteries outside of the main monastery.   Outside of these ranks, the Prismatic Path has little use for titles though some informal ones exist such as Wanderer of the path, Hierophant, and Collector. Wanderer of the Path: These are the monks who wander the world seeking new members, perspectives, and knowledge to bring back, this is the most common. Hierophant: These are those who are able to sense the past and spend most of their time and effort trying to understand the true history of the world. Collector: These are those who collect works of art, items, and other bits of forgotten lore so that they cannot be lost to time.

Culture

With each new perspective we understand we see the world with a new swatch of color. We are all trying to understand the world but few ever really see it. They look upon a painting but only see it in a certain color defiend by their own beliefs, their own perspective. It is our desire to try and understand the painting that is the world by seeing it truly with all of its colors.

Public Agenda

To gather lore, information, learn about cultures, history, crafts, and so on. Most of the world sees them as little but pacifist scholars with little interest beyond their own desire for knowledge.

Assets

The Monastery that is the center of their practice is known as the 'The Door before endless paths' though most use a shorthand version of the Door. Within their monastery are extensive libraries, crafting halls, vaults, and meditation gardens.

History

The Prismatic Path has its origin as a result of a group of humans who had been lied to all their lives by the powerful, manipulated, and used until they broke free. They vowed to learn how to stop those who would do such to others, but their vision expanded as they began to understand the greater picture of the world. When those in power changed history for the masses to treat them as a hostile force they began to wonder how often such things had happened in the past. This sparked their desire to learn of events from the past, how they became able to see events that happened in the past even hundreds of years ago is unknown to the outside world, some believe they are able to look into the ethereal plane where time doesn't exist and all that was, is and shall be exist if you know how to look for it.   From the Coven of the Firstborn they learned how to undo the threads of magical influence using their ki to cause those threads to burst to form the flames able to be seen when they successfully break such an effect.

Cleansing Flame When confronted by those not in their own minds, their path corrupted by the supernatural will of another a follower of the Prismatic path can attempt to free them of this corruption.   You make an attack against someone affected by a magical compulsion such as a charm, suggestion, or other mind-affecting spells or supernatural abilities. Roll to hit as normal and if you hit you can use a ki point to instead of damaging the target use the attack roll against the DC of the effect on the target. If it is higher than the DC the effect ends as it is destroyed in a wave of ki flame that comes from the fist of the monk. If the attack rolls a natural 20 the target is immune to mind effecting abilities and spells for the next minute.   If the victim is under a possession effect: You make an attack against a target that is currently possessed and spend a ki point, if the attack hits the possessing creature must make a wisdom saving throw against the Monk’s DC. If the possessing creature fails the save the creature is expelled from the victim to a square opposite of the monk (or the nearest open square). Once expelled the possessing creature is unable to reposess the target for an hour. Otherwise it remains in control of the victim.

Sense the Past Once per short rest you can touch an object or creature and gain a flash of its past. This insight comes in vague flashes of time, the monk can see the past around the object up to 10 feet away from it clearly and anything beyond that is a blur and difficult to make out. The events that are shown are displayed quickly but can be remembered by the monk after the experience. The Monk experiences the true event from an outsider’s perspective   Creatures: Target makes a wisdom save against the monk’s DC. The monk can learn the major personality traits of the target (flaws, bonds, ideals, etc.), or something life changing or incredibly important to the target, such as tragedy or a love. When this is used the target becomes aware as the memories flash and cycle through their mind. It is up to the DM if this can overcome amnesia, also players should consult DM and other players before using on another player.   Object: Declare what you are searching for and roll an insight check, the DM determines the DC of the check based on how detailed the information is. A high DC would be the exact solution to a puzzle, while a low to medium DC would be getting a hint to the solution.
