The Master Omnibus

The Master Omnibus while a large book could be easily overlooked as any regular book, bound in simple brown leather with metal clasps and a broken open lock. The strange part of the book comes in that it can be found anywhere seemingly at random but always on a lectern of white marble and gold trim, even in the middle of a dense forest, barren desert, or even on the surface of the ocean. Those that open the Omnibus will find its pages are endless a new one seeming to manifest out of nothing while a previous page vanishes. It is only when they stop at a story that interests them will the Omnibus speak and demand payment for the story.

Summary

The Master Omnibus is a sentient item of immense magical power. It is following a directive to gather all the stories of the world and beyond. It is willing to trade its stories for new ones, but should the Omnibus decide that the story it is given is unworthy either because it found the story dull as it has heard many like it before or it simply wasn't told well. Should your story not be up to what the Omnibus wants it will offer you another way to pay. Should you accept you will be pulled from reality and placed within a demiplane inside of the Master Omnibus itself where you will take on the rolls of another story, often the one you want and you must fulfill the roles as the story demands or risk angering the Omnibus. Those who do anger the Omnibus while inside its demiplane suffer horrific fates playing the monsters that are so often slaughtered in the stories, forced to recall every death they endure until they 'Get it right.'

Historical Basis

The Master Omnibus most certainly does exist, though its movements through history are hard to track and so it often falls out of living memory becoming just another story. It is something of a holy grail for bards who desire access to the greatest stories ever told. Those who know about the Master Omnibus know enough to try to stay away from it and in so doing lose track of it, while those who don't know and seek it simply don't know enough to accurately track it.

The myth about the Master Omnibus has reached all corners of Savorah and possibly the world and beyond, the idea of it is common knowledge, everyone has at least heard of the idea but most don't believe it exists or that it is just some musty old tome somewhere.

Variations & Mutation

Some of the variations say that it is the storybook of the Virtuoso who slipped away from its owner and now spreads stories and art wherever it goes. Others that it is a cursed tome that consumes those who read it gobbling up their souls as penance for their daring to look upon its pages. One of the more common variations is that a mage tried to emulate the Encyclopedia Ad infinitum the book that has every last scarp of knowledge to ever exist and it failed instead it collects stories to fill in the lack of knowledge it had.
