The Shear

History

Savorah is something of a lost land to the world, The Shear prevents water-based travel into or out of Savorah effectively isolating them from the rest of the world. The Shear is a scar from the end of the First Age when the Worldforger turned his gaze to the world to put an end to the conflict that the gods were waging across the world disrupting the balance in the process. In short order, the gods were subdued by the Worldforger and his avatar in the final act of desperation the Sunderer called forth an asteroid of adamantine from the depths of the ‘Sea of Stars’. As legends say the Worldforger’s talons cut through the asteroid breaking it into smaller shards that he used to cut the landmasses apart and separate the races believing that they must be separate to prevent most such terrible conflicts.   Where those shards landed broke apart the land diving the single continent into many, then the Woorldforger moved them apart to different places on the world leaving large scars in what is now the seas between the continents. These scars are known as The Shear which sits two hundred miles off the shore of Savorah in every direction. The Shear is a massive ravine with seawater turning into waterfalls pouring down into a black void. This void isn’t infinite in depth nor does it lead to another plane it is a massively deep ravine that still bears echoes of the magic that radiated from the actions of such powerful beings hence the reason the seas have not filled in these gaps. This also prevents water travel to or from Savorah to the other continents that exist in the world. Airships or other means of travel that circumvent this gap are possible even if they are still rather dangerous. Water and air form into opposing currents near the Shear, the water falling down into the ravine turns back into itself making for a semicircle flow of water, the same is true of the air above it with large updrafts that can easily blow craft or flyers back the way they came.
