Beyond Lankhmar: The Dark Dens of Varakmall
Wherein heroes and denizens alike sink into the gorge that is Varakmall until no light can be found.
Varakmall is an ancient city that should have faded into the sands of the Poisoned Desert a century ago. It lives through the foul magicks of the Dark Council that rules over it with a tyrannical fist.
Built across a gorge that empties into the Poisoned Desert to the East, it lies just behind the first bend in the gorge. While its lowest levels are not well known beyond its borders, a little research reveals the following:
- The Towers rise above the desert having few if any windows.
- The Markets sit at surface and overhang the canyon.
- The Cliffs wherein lie the homes and mundane workshops of the free citizens.
- The Caverns containing slaves and mines, but little light.
- The Ancient Dark which is so deep it said that it eats any light brought to its depths. None speak of what transpires there.
