The gathering of the raw material from deposits and the refinement of ores requires the use of the Prospecting skill.
Metal resource cards can be traded with by anyone.
Ore
Raw material
Ore is the first stage of the metal refinement process and can be obtained by mining natural ore deposits in the field.
Iron
Worked material
Iron is the second stage of the metal refinement process.
Steel
Refined material
Steel is the final stage of the metal refinement process.
The Cards
Field Card
Field cards are A5 sized Lammies which can be gathering from deposits, as per the Prospecting skill. These Field Cards need to be taken to GOD directly after you return from the gathering trip, and exchanged for resource cards.
Resource Card
Resource Cards are what GOD hand back to you if you are exchanging Field Cards from gathering using Prospecting, putting useable resources into the game. NPC's may also have these for trade. Anyone can carry, use and trade with resource cards.
