The Wall Riders
A human figure stands at the base of a colossal wall of ice, breathing in the deadly cold air, flourishing in it. The layers upon layers of clothes that cover his body will only protect him for so long. He looked down at the flat slope of snow and ice, spanning miles into the unknown. In an instant, he grabbed a refined plank of wood from his back and jumped down below. Rushing down, standing on a sled no more than 2 feet wide, the figure slides down and rapidly accelerating. The trip would take about an hour, but the thrill and chill in the air is more than enough to keep him going.
The Wall Riders, or Riders for short, is a sub-culture active immediately south of the Ice Wall, and especially The Slush Pits. Riders spend their time sledding and skiing down the dangerous slopes of the Ice Wall, and will often organize races. To a Wall Rider, there is no state of consciousness greater than pure thrill, and they often assert this to anyone this come across.
Because of the dangerous nature of the environment, wall riding is considered incredibly foolhardy, and those who survive their first slopes often have to quickly return home to recover. The most experienced Wall Riders would have made several trips, and often constructed their own sleds and skis between trips.
Many of the Wall Riders are peabodies, due to their innate ability to survive in such harsh environments, but people from all over The Boundless Expanse participate in wall riding. As such, Wall Riders often pride themselves on diversity, and welcome people from all kinds of life. To innerworlders travelling to the Beyond, the Wall Riders may be the first form of life they encounter, so they tend to stay to join them or return later.
