Elspeth Till (a.k.a. Velvet)

El went from family baby to babysitter at age 12 when Storm was born, followed fourteen months later by Rowan. It gave her a strange sense of values; being overshadowed by her domineering sisters for so long instilled a desire for freedom and recognition, while spending much of her teen years as her brothers' caretakers resulted in her developing strong urges to mother-hen those around her. Despite this, she's always expecting the moment when she's left behind or abandoned and doesn't trust anyone to help her or act in her best interest.

Personal history

Elspeth's life until recently was defined by her family. Her parents had her and her sisters rather young and unexpectedly in life, and it shows. Ed and Jess love their children dearly, but their parenting techniques frequently zig-zagged across the line between "hands-off" and "neglect." It defined El and her sisters, for better or worse; they became independent workers and self-advocates at a young age out of necessity but also learned to never expect any help from authority figures. Annie and Luna coped by becoming boisterous and attention-seeking; El often found herself being hushed or ignored to prevent tantrums from the twins (which happened any time they felt someone was getting the attention they deserved). When the boys came along, Annie and Luna wanted nothing to do with them, so El felt she had to step up when Ed and Jess inevitably dropped the parenting ball.
After a short lifetime of fading into the background behind her sisters while having to often put her own wants and needs aside to tend to her brothers, El snapped and moved across the country to get away from her old life and have a fresh start. She completed her post-secondary education and kept moving, this time heading north. She settled in a small, sleepy town where she's one of the two individuals managing the "community center" - really a mish-mash of a library, a tea room, the world's tiniest post office, and a small but modern arcade. Although most of the community is 50+ and she hardly has any peers her own age, El is the happiest she's ever been.
In return for living above the community center (making her the de facto security guard), El has unlimited access to the library and arcade after hours, which resulted in her making a GBN account and entering the world of gunpla.
