Elfish Cloth

Elifish cloth and clothing made from it are much sought after. It is light-weight, tough, very breathable, and water resistant. Perhaps the most desired feature of this cloth is that it takes magical enchantments well. It is possible to make a suit of clothing that is warm in the cold, cool in the heat, and dry in the rain with the judicious use of the proper magic.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Elfish cloth can be woven tightly or loosely, but it is generally very smooth and soft to the touch. It is very pliable. It takes dye readily, so can be any number of colors.

Physical & Chemical Properties

  • Soft — Very soft to the touch.
  • Strong — While thin, the material is very strong, as strong as or stronger than most leathers.
  • Pliable — As pliable as the finest silks.
  • Breathable — Elfish cloth can wick away perspiration and allow air to circulate.
  • Water resistant — At the same time, it is resistant to water, so in anything less than a heavy downpour, it will remain dry inside, shedding water easily.
  • Light weight — Very few materials that can be used for clothing are as light as elfish cloth. Some say wearing it is like wearing nothing at all.
  • Enchantable — Readily takes enchantments. However, this can only be done under certain conditions, so it is difficult to remove or modify existing enchantments.

Origin & Source

The thread used to create elfish cloth comes from the koru (thread) vine, which grows almost exclusively in Ishä, under the care of the elfs. The fibrous vine is split and separated, with fine threads extracted from the fibers. The thread is then woven into cloth.
