yiqaukal
Yiqaukal /jɪˈkwaʊkɒl/ are colorful strips of cloth used for yaunakī. Words of care, well-wishing, or remembrance are written upon them and they are placed about the home of the person they are intended for. In the case of a remembrance yiqauakal, they are most often place in and around the home of the deceased family, but anyone can remember a loved one.
Yiqaukal can be made of any type of cloth, but it is generally quite colorful. For special celebrations, more expensive cloth may be used, even by those who would normally not be able to purchase the material. In these cases, specialty cloth is usually purchased from Rotai weavers, but any higher quality material may be used. For those with the skill, home-woven material can be used for these special occasions.
