Jasper Blackborough is the Earl of Axebury and a powerful vassal of Edward Whitemount. He forms a bond with Edward's bastard, Simon.

Appearance and Character

Jasper is a man tarnished by age, his face blemished and wrinkled. His hair, though naturally grey due to his age, is dyed jet black. The dye is a sickly oil native to Axebury and gives Blackborough's hair a greasy appearance. He is clean-shaven and enjoys pruning himself.
His personality is one of cruelty and manipulation, both of which he takes immense pleasure in. Edward Whitemount holds him in incredibly low regard, mistrusting him so much so as to bar him from his house's traditional office of treasurer of Dregonvell. While little is known about Blackborough's home life, some is common knowledge amongst the populace, though rumours spread wide about a man with such a reputation. His first wife, Lana, died mysteriously aged thirty-one. Some years later, Jasper became infatuated with a thirteen-year-old girl, Esme, the sister of Earl Bridadon Bricktar, a minor lord from the Rocklands. He was forty-nine at this meeting, and his marriage proposal was rejected by Lord Bricktar. Infuriated, Jasper crept into Esme's room, raped her, impregnated her, and thus forced the Bricktar's to accept the marriage to avoid the scandal. Lack of proof and Blackborough's higher social status ensured no legal challenge could be made.
