Lord

Lords or ladies are members of the Ereman nobility, taking up the space between the monarch and the landed commoners. In this article, all uses of the terms earl, high earl, or lord can be interchanged with the female equivalent or countess, high countess, or lady.

Usage

The most obvious usage of the title of lord is in reference to earls and high earls and their spouses, all of which are styled as lords. In addition, the legitimate children and male-line grandchildren of earls and high earls are also lords. However, there are still differences in style.   All relatives of an earl should be referred to as their first name preceded by 'lord.' Only the head of the house may be referred to as the house name preceded by 'lord.' For example, while Arther Whitemount is Lord Arther, only Edward Whitemount, his father and the high earl, should be referred to as Lord Whitemount.   Lords who are not the head of the house and are knighted often style themselves as 'sir', replacing 'lord.' They should, however, still be addressed as 'my lord' and are distinct in class from knights tenant or knights-at-arms.   In addition, nobles may refer to other nobles as 'my lord of (house)', such as 'my lord of Whitemount.' This form of address is only to be used by nobles of a similar, or usually higher rank, or messangers of them.
