This is the birth of Edward Whitemount, the first viewpoint character we meet.

Born to High Earl Richard 'The Fortified' Whitemount of Clevonwall, a formidable warrior known for repelling invaders, and High Countess Maria Tarnell - a sister of High Earl Clifford of Royceland - Edward was the second son. His older brother, also called Richard, was six at Edward's birth.
