Headman of Tourism

While the Adventurers’ Guild of Nowvrond was still small, the Guildmaster needed to reward a very active member. This adventurer was responsible for tripling the membership in one year and they mentored the junior members. They often assembled random members and took them on quests to help them build experience and negotiated with merchants to get discounts for weapons, armor, and other gear. Some senior members complaining about how the guild was starting to look like a travel agency. They said there were too many new, under-experienced members. There was a concern about the possibility of too many deaths drawing unwanted attention to the guild. Thus the Guildmaster, who was something of a practical joker, created a permanent position within the guild. This position would change periodically and would be performance-based. That is, the single member who recruited the most members that survived three or more quests would be eligible for the title Headman of Tourism. They would be able to appoint a group of mentors to help new members which would be called Travel Agents. The Guildmaster immediately appointed all the members that had been vocal about the chance of death among the junior members as the first Travel Agents. The ensuing uproar ended in a fistfight with the Guildmaster personally ending it. With the responsibility for getting the new members up to speed firmly thrust on the ones, at least on the surface, most concerned about it, business returned to normal. Several senior guild members continued to complain to the Guildmaster who just waved them off. Deaths among new adventurers never rose and the guild was running out of bunkspace. The Headman of Tourism suggested moving the guild headquarters since they needed room to expand. A site near the south of the city was chosen and the ground was broken on a new complex with plans for fifty years of continued expansion. The guild now serves as a central hub covering the entire kingdom providing experienced manpower. Quests outside the kingdom are becoming increasingly frequent. Because of this, a new duty was added to the Headman of Tourism and the Travel Agents: to check that those quests are legitimate. To that effect now the Headman posts intraguild quests to send parties to other kingdoms. They are to both verify the quests from other kingdoms and look for other opportunities. Especially for alliances with other guilds or founding new ones.
