The Alvar
Long years ago, a millennia or more and only the Alvar know when, they ended a long journey through the stars. Coming to a system they called Bloheron, their first settlement was on Muaghtykus. Of the few things known of the time, was there was no sapient life on Muaghtykus. The Alvar set about making a home for themselves in the uninhabited system. Discovering themselves shorthanded to enact their grand designs the golems were built. Although strong, it was decided that golems lacked sufficient initiative. Alvar introspection led to the eventual creation of the other sapient races of Muaghtykus. Modern philosophers believe the revolts by each of the races stemmed from the Alvar instilling in them true real free will. Not one Alvar was successfully even injured during the turmoil and every other being that was killed was proven to be by the hands of their own people. This revelation changed the conception of the Alvar as self-consumed dictators. It did nothing for the awesome fear that the public at large still has for the Alvar. Now largely retired from worldly concerns and living within distant, hidden places they are the stuff of speculation and rumor. All of the intelligent races have been left to their own devices to succeed or fail as they will. Time and again conflict arose between the races in their struggle for domination, wars swept the landscape over and over. Each time a peaceful resolution was reached, and a fresh rumor of one or another of the Alvar appearing circulated. Some would rankle over the perceived ongoing meddling by the Alvar. This cemented them as a sort of power behind the scenes, inscrutable. A few have likened the Alvar to disinterested gardeners, cultivating what pleases them, weeding out what doesn’t, waiting to see if a plan works out, and crushing pests when they get out of hand.
