Syrt
A large town in the Broomen Borderlands, a rugged territory in the Oakenlands bordering Broomen, Syrt's inhabitants are known for their rigid beliefs and their inability to willingly give up. Situated in the large mountains separating these lands from the rest of the Oakenlands, Syrt has an important role in keeping the peace.
History
In the years of 5122-5134, the war of Broomen independence against the Oakenlands was a devastating one. Syrt, the city of Flatcrag and other smaller villages were caught right in the middle of it. Broomen and the Oakenlands were both trying to get the Broomen Borderlands on their side. Syrt wanted to stay in the Oakenlands, whilst Flatcrag was willing to become a city of Broomen.
In the year 5129, Broomen invaded the Borderlands thanks to the help of Flatcrag, and Syrt was destroyed by the Arcane Assault Force after not complying with the annexation.
But the Syrtians never backed down. Fleeing to the safer cities in the Oakenlands, most of them joined the army of their country and they helped push back the armies of Broomen.
When the war ended, the Syrtians started to rebuild their town. They prepared better defenses, including building their houses and towers in and around the mountains, using the forces of nature against the enemy.
In 5145, Syrt was officially rebuilt and reinstated as a settlement. They became an integral part to the keeping of peace between the Oakenlands and Broomen, together with the new government of Flatcrag that shares the sentiment towards their own country.
Several times, random insurgents tried to annex the Broomen Borderlands again, but Syrt is always there to block them on their advance to the bigger part of the Oakenlands. The people of Syrt have never given up and now, in the year 6900, it doesn't look like they ever will.
