Tartarean Rift

The Land of the Dead is not wholly... whole. Deep pits have opened up in the terrain, seemingly infinitely in depth and scope and seem to wrap around below the terrain itself. Some rifts are large enough to completely isolate portions of the Land of the Dead, creating the illusion of islands floating in an endless void.
Many of these Tartarean Rifts appear to contain distant points of light that shimmer and twinkle like stars. Some souls have dedicated their existence to a peculiar form of astronomy, mapping out "constellations" within these rifts and casting horoscopes upon the Deep Zodiacs found below. it appears that the Deep Zodiacs are not wholly consistent between Rifts, and the majority of these rifts do not contain these point lights at all.
What is certain is that unfortunate souls that fall over the edge never return.
