Dragonborn

Overview

Dragonborn look very much like dragonic humanoids standing erect in humanoid form, though they lack wings and tails. There are many tales about the creation of Dragonborn. Some say Dragonborn have their origin with a dwarven clan cursed to take the shape of a dragonoid form by their greed, others claim they were elevated from the ranks of lizardfolk and kobolds, though their warm blooded nature makes this unlikely at best. They themselves however maintain that they were originally hatched from the eggs of true dragons as an entirely unique race, combining the best of humanoids and dragonkin.   They are tall and strongly built, often standing close to 6½ feet tall and weighing 300 pounds or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talonlike claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand. Their scales boast colors reminiscent of Dragon Breeds, details about Dragons can be found lower on this page.   Dragonborn are creatures of pride, to the point of protecting their honor and reputation at all cost. The only thing more important than their honor is their clan. Dragonborn owe their devotion and respect to their clan above all else, even the gods. Each dragonborn’s conduct reflects on the honor of his or her clan, and bringing dishonor to the clan can result in expulsion and exile. Each dragonborn knows his or her station and duties within the clan, and honor demands maintaining the bounds of that position.   A continual drive for self-improvement reflects the self-sufficiency of the race and their clans as a whole. Dragonborn value skill and excellence in all endeavors. They hate to fail, and they push themselves to extreme efforts before they give up on something. A dragonborn holds mastery of a particular skill as a lifetime goal. Members of other races who share the same commitment find it easy to earn the respect of a dragonborn. Nevertheless they recognize that sometimes help is needed and are willing to accept the aid of those they trust, asking other clans and gods before other races.   During the Age of Greatwyrms Dragonborn were the chosen champions and foot soldiers of the Great Wyrms that ruled these lands making up the apex of the scaled caste system, with kobolds and lizardfolk beneath them. The Fleshlings belonged to the slave caste and with their terrifying legions the Dragonborn Lords and Ladies were the Iron Claws and Face of the Draconic Empire. When the Wyrmbane King arose from the Gladiator Pits and waged his slave revolt it was partly due to Dragonborn and Draconic Arrogance that he succeeded and eventually managed to drive off the Scaled creatures from the land and slay the last of the Greatwyrms and the Shadow Empress that ruled the realm.   The survivors of this ordeal scattered to the winds, seas and reaches beyond the mountains, fleeing for their lives and now live far away, out of sight and out of mind of most people who would slay them with impunity.
