The details regarding his banishment two decades ago are unknown, but since then he has been pursuing an alleged cure for someone he holds dear. He uses his skills to cause 'unfortunate illnesses' for his livelihood, and to finance expeditions. He currently uses his knowledge regarding botany to disguise himself as a horticulturist, while he gathers ingredients for poisons, and literature for the cure. The exact reason for his arrival in Ephyrae is unknown, but it's almost certainly about the cure he seeks.
