Ghost World

The city of Hong Kong was ravaged as the battleground between different factions in China during the 1990s and early 2000s. This resulted in thousands of dead and very strict control measures for the civilian population. Militech made it a bas of operations for the region, but Arasaka set up facilities of their own, complete with heavily armed forces. Towards the end of the Fourth Corporate War, a virulent contagion with a 100% mortality rate was released into the city. Both sides blame the other, but the outcome is the same: Hong Kong was abandoned and the risks of sending humans in were too great.

Hong Kong's NET infrastructure was powered by waves, supported by other forms of renewable forms of generation. Taking this opportunity, the engram of Alt Cunningham established Ghost World as a digital haven running on Hong Kong's abandoned server infrastructure.

There are rumours of similar solutions exist elsewhere for the entities beyond the Blackwall, including Busan in United Korea. Even with such expansions, the tech in these locations is old and might break. Eventually, humans will return to Hong Kong. All this means the AI out there has to develop more brutal ways to survive among their own and grow increasingly desperate to tear down the Blackwall.
