Movement (Scene-map scale)
Movement Speed
The basic Movement rules in Fate Core rely on Zones that are arbitrarily-sized, difficult to keep consistent and meaningful at the same time, and are (in my opinion) just annoying. Rather than using that, character movement capabiltiies on a scene map will be determined as follows:
- Scene maps will use a hexagonal "grid."
- All characters begin with a base movement of 4;
- A character's Athletics-skill rating modifies that movement base directly, so a character with +2/Fair Athletics has a movement base of 6;
- Changing direction/facing by 60° costs one of those movement (so turning 180° and going back the way you came eats 3 movement. Side-stepping, so long as the main direction of movement does not change, does not incur this cost.
- Characters may sprint by expending a Physical Stress for each additional space (that is 1 Stress for an additional hex, etc. — remember that stress-boxes have values; those values are the boost to movement)
Endurance and Movement
For longer-duration movement, characters can run at a good speed for four hours, base. The duration they can keep that up is boosted by their Physique value.
Like scene-level movement, this duration can be extended by expending stress, though in this case either physical stress (endurance) or mental stress (determination to keep going) can be used.
Weapons and Armor
Consensus was that we liked the rules, but I need to see if I can come up with a better-feeling balance-point, so that they don't have quite so extensive an effect, while still having some effect.
