Cerium

This element of high value to the Federation has never been found on an M-Class planet, yet is essential to the construction and reinforcement of spaceframes that can withstand the pressures of high-warp travel for prolonged periods of time. In the 23rd century, the main production centre for cerium was the Janus VI mining colony. Since then, a few other planets have been discovered where cerium is available, so most starships keep an ample supply on hand in their cargo bays to effect crucial hull repairs. Cerium is very difficult to mine and usually requires the cooperation of Hortas to effectively locate and create access to the mineral deposits.
