The Bells

quote about the first time someone heard the bells

The Bells can be heard across all of Salike, thanks to advances in acoustic technology. Every resident has heard them at least once in their lifetime. They always signify a sigificant occurrence within the city, and different tunes are played for different occaisions. They last time they sounded was on the morning after the Dukes murder, and the whole city has been abuzz with rumour since.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Clock tower in which the bells are housed contains a masterpiece of clockwork engineering, which runs the four clocks within the tower. The bells have been hooked up to this sytem and can be sounded in a variety of tunes at the mere pull of a lever. The bells have been restored to pristine condition and their tones are pure and loud.

Significance

The bells were all that remained from the old bell tower of the the original city. They were found during reconstruction efforts, and after a rudimentary clean and repair were installed in a makeshift tower to act as a warning system. The Bells were instrumental in saving lives during the years following the Quake, as the people worked to rebuild the City. Upon completion of the new bell tower they were installed here and continued to act as an early warning system. Over the ensuing years the Bells were also sounded during special events or oaccaisions. After construction of the Garden heights district the bells were once more rehomed in a large clocktower in the centre of the district. Completion of a new warning system meant the bells were no longer required for this purpose and now only sound during momentous occaisions.
