The Spirit Mirror
When a person dies and the local burial custom is completed, a reflecting pool may be built in honor of the deceased. This pool may be in any shape and size, but should be built somewhere that is strongly connected to the dead; whether that be above their grave, in the field of their childhood play, or under the tree where they were wed– the stronger the connection, the more effective the Spirit Mirror.
Mirror-Watching
Once the Spirit Mirror is built, then the Mirror-Watcher may sit and look into the pool, waiting for the Spirit of the dead to appear; this can be a matter of minutes, or it can take years. Some claim that singing or dancing or reading near the pool speeds the process, as the Spirit may take more notice of action than inaction and so appear sooner.
Once the Spirit appears, then they may draw pictures or mime actions beneath the water's surface which only the Mirror-Watcher may see. The Spirit may answer questions about their life as if they were still living, but are also granted the ability to answer questions about the future of specific people, dependent upon who the Mirror-Watcher is to the Spirit.
Participants
A Spirit Mirror can only be watched by the person who completed an age-related ceremony for the dead, and which of these they completed determines what they can see, as it is the mixing of the Divinity of both the Spirit of the Mirror and the Mirror-Watcher that allows for sight of the future.
- Birth - Future of parents
- Coming of Age - Future of friends
- Marriage - Future of spouse
- Death - Future of children
Observance
Mirror-Watching can occur over any time period, but the best opportunity for the Spirit of the Mirror to appear to the Mirror-Watcher is believed to be the year-specific anniversary of when the Mirror-Watcher completed the tradition with the Spirit of the Mirror.
