Akira

Akira (a.k.a. Kira)

Akira was the phoenixborn who had attended the Royal Academy of Magic on a scholarship under the agreement that the professors could study her, given the rarity and lack of knowledge about her species. Morgan "Morose" Fowler was initially in charge of her care despite not being involved in the research into her.

Personal history

Until being granted a scholarship at the Royal Academy, Akira had no formal education. She'd been taught to read by her human father. However, as he was a human and she was a phoenix, he would eventually die while Akira was doomed to be reborn. After her first life cycle (which had ended peacefully in her sleep), the following cycles would be grueling. 

1. Akira was first formed through the union between a phoenix and a human man. The phoenix died shortly after her affair with the father, and instead of being reborn as a phoenix, she was reborn as Akira. Akira was raised by her father who was extraordinarily protective of her, doing his best to keep her away from anyone who he deemed a danger to her (which was most people), and raising her entirely on his own. He passes away when she is 1-32. She dies in her sleep at age 1-63
2. In the second cycle, now no longer under the protection of her father, she saw fit to try traveling away from home and meeting new people. She'd met very few people in the previous cycle, and wanted to go out into the world. She leaves her home at 2-12 to travel to the nearest city. Long before arriving there she is found and captured by a group of bandits, deciding that the rarity of her would fetch them a pretty price. She is sold to a circus and works as the headliner of the freak show until she's 2-30. When the ringleader of the circus decides she's outgrown her usefulness she's sold again, this time to a viscount in Chaudozia. She becomes his most valuable trophy, regularly showing her off to guests. At 2-35 the viscount is invited to a party hosted by the King of Chaudozia, and brings Akira with him. She is made to perform for him, and at the end of her performance she is killed. 
3. She is reborn several days later. The King is so taken by not only the rarity of a phoenix in human form, but her ability to die and return to life that he offers the viscount a new position as a duke in exchange for letting him have Akira. The viscount, now duke, gladly accepts the offer and returns to his home after the party ends leaving Akira in the Kings care. She is trained to dance and sing while at the castle in anticipation for various political parties the King will hold wherein she would be the star of the entertainment. While she sings and dances for most parties, she is killed on rare occasions when the company is important enough to justify showing off her ability as a phoenix. She dies at 3-15 at a party for the High Officers of Riza. 
4. She is trained to sing and dance for parties, and is killed at 4-11 three days before the Kings' daughters wedding so that she would be reborn at the wedding.
5. She is born at the Princesses wedding. The King again has her trained to sing and dance, but this time doesn't kill her. Rather, he tries to make her have a child, in hopes of being able to use the child as an exotic gift for political allies. However, as phoenixborn are infertile, it's a futile effort and never bears fruit. The king spends the rest of his life trying to get her to successfully reproduce, and dies before he gets a chance to kill her again. She dies at 5-22 due to poor health. 
6. The Princess takes the throne as Queen. She'd been watching Akira for several of her past cycles, watching the abuse and cruelty she'd gone through and banned the killing of phoenixborn as her first order as Queen following her fathers death. At 6-15 Akira received a letter from King Frederick of Asortia. The letter described the Royal Academy of Magic and extended an invitation to Akira to study there free of charge in exchange for letting the researchers working there to study her in hopes of learning more about her species. Akira brought the letter to the Queen who gave her her blessing to travel to Asortia and study at the academy. She is studied for several years. The research was lead by Professor Lily Fethilane. The studies were mundane at first, about her magical prowess, flight, and physical exams. Eventually, as the King started putting his attention towards other things and focusing less on the academy and Akira, Fethilane began taking her experiments in her own darker direction. She started studying Akira's regeneration ability, injuring her and seeing how she heals. Fethilane decides that she can kill two birds with one stone, simultaneously do a more in-depth examination of Akira's anatomy while also studying how she is reborn. At 6-18, after years of medical abuse by Fethilane, Akira dies on an examination table during dissection. Following this death, Fethilane claims that Akira ran off in the night and never returned, putting their study to an end.
7. Akira is killed and reborn several times in quick succession, all of which are by Fethilane experimenting on the conditions in which Akira is able to be reborn. 7-0. 
8. 8-0.
9. 9-0
10. 10-0. It was after the death at 10-0 that an anonymous note was left in the headmistress' office informing her of Fethilane's lie, that she'd been killing Akira over and over to further uncover the secret to her regeneration. After receiving this note, Morose Fowler, King Frederick, and the White Guard were informed of Fethilane's secret studies on Akira. Fethilane was quickly apprehended, tried, and executed for her crimes. It's believed that Fethilane was able to discover a means to control when Akira was able to be reborn, as following this cycle Akira was never born again.

Sexuality

Akira never had any kind of romantic or sexual relationship with anyone, though she had a kind of "kid crush" on Morose more based in admiration than attraction. This, of course, was never reciprocated.

Education

Up until recieving the invitation to the academy, Akira's only education had been being homeschooled by her father in her first cycle. Still, it was a barebones education, as her father only had so much knowledge he could impart upon her, not being a man of particular education himself.  While attending the academy, she struggled noticeably in all of her classes as the bar for work was higher than most collegiates would have been able to meet. She wasn't unintelligent by any means, however.

Circumstances of Birth

Akira is a very old phoenixborn, she'd lived for seven cycles before her death. Each time she is born of the ashes her former self became.

Circumstances of Death

Lily, the head researcher into Akira, going against her direct orders from King Frederick, decided to focus largely on how Akira lived, died, and was reborn. One such experiment was seeing how she could control her rebirth.
