Broken World
Nobody remembers the cataclysm or the time before that. All anyone can see are the deep holes and chasms that cover the scorched earth. Cities have fallen and have been replaced with tribes of bandits and scavengers. Here and there small villages are beginning to crop up, attempting to rebuild what was lost.
Surprisingly, the only habitable places are close to these chasm, where the earth is fertile and forests grow. Resources can be mined from these chasms and abysses. An exceedingly dangerous job, usually accompanied by many accidents and deaths. Nobody has ever reached the bottom of any chasm; no rope or ladder was ever long enough. The only thing that people know about these chasms is that, every morning, dense fog rises from these, which then dissipates over noon.
The inhabitants of these worlds only have one goal: survive. Trade is one of the most central aspects to survival, since nobody has sufficient resources to sustain themselves. Robberies are a constant and both mercenaries and alchemists are in high demand to protect the few valuable trade routes.
