Kingdom of Sarma
The Kingdom of Sarma stands in the shores of the Golden sea, bordering the Sun Kingdom and the Pharsian Empire. Sarma has a long history of tensions with these two nations, as the two large powers often dispute sovereignty over the Golden Sea. Despite that, Sarma has benefited to some extent from its proximity to two great cultures and a gateway between the vast Pharsian domain and the Sun Kingdom's lands. Trade between those often happens with Sarma working as a proxy, its harbors and market cities flowing with traders who care not about the larger political picture. As such, Sarma is a land of trade and culture, focused on tolerance and cosmopolitanism.
Structure
The Kingdom of Sarma and the city of Sarma are often confused, and that's not surprising. The city is the capital and only major settlement of the kingdom, and from where the King presides over the rest of its domains. The other settlements are left to their own devices as long as proper tribute is paid to the city, and they enjoy the benefits of a central power with a standing army to protect them. Unlike the Sun Kingdom and Kesh, the priesthood in Sarma is not involved in the affairs of politics, as the city is home to a great number of faiths from different places, and is often called the city of a Hundred Gods, due to the number of temples found within its walls.
History
The City of Sarma is one of the oldest cities known to man, as a city has stood where the city of Sarma is since the earliest days of recorded history. However, it has been destroyed by fire, earthquakes, invaders and abandoned due to plague several times in its history. Despite that, the city's location over the banks of the Ibis always leads to its reconstruction and reoccupation. The last of such reoccupations has occurred three centuries ago, and since then, the city has expanded its influence over the tribes and villages across the Ibis.
