The Faltonne Conspiracy

The First Holy War was not confined solely to the continent of Therimore. The reach of this theological war extended across the oceans to the small neutral island of Faltonne. Faltonne became caught up in this conflict when their youngest prince, Tenworth Belham, was murdered shortly after the initial conflict began, supposedly by mercenaries sent by Concordia as a preemptive strike. They fought initially against Concordia with the Tzetrovites, before discovering the Concordians had not sent the mercenaries, then switched sides to fight the Tzetrovites. Most soldiers from the rest of Faltonne defended the island from invaders, but a few became sell-swords, fighting for whomever offered the better deal ( or whomever they believed had a better chance of winning). Unbeknownst to most on Faltonne, it had secretly been a member of the Duchess's council (a slithery man named Relanth Valesh, who was part of a secret organization scheming to take control of the island). He had arranged to have the young Belham prince killed in his bed, and blame it on the bloodthirsty Concordians. This was all part of a conspiracy to get Belham involved in the war, and eventually wipe out the succession of the Belham bloodline, thereby destabilizing the government and setting it up neatly for a relatively bloodless takeover. While the initial phase of Valesh's plan went off cleanly, a brave band of concerned Faltonnelles investigated the murder, and exposed Valesh to the Duchess Belham before he could execute the next part of his scheme.
