Magic Gems

Magic Gems, also known as Magic Stones, Power Gems, Power Stones, Philosopher's stones, or Philosopher's gems, are a rare naturally occurring gem that is, or can be imbued by magic. While not the only way to interface with the Æther, these stones allow magic to be used by non-magical users, namely Artificers. This has allowed for many advancements in civilization that would be difficult and laborious to maintain with magic users alone.   These gems are not as abundant as they once used to be, and nations have been fighting over their use as their own stockpiles diminish. Trades through Dunsterpor have made Reagel a powerful and rich country. Despite its riches and abundance of Magic Gems, Reagel has poured substantial effort and money into the Artificer's Guild in order to build technology less dependent on magic.   Currently it is not known why there is a deficit of Magic Gems, or if there is one at all. Rumors range from various forces stockpiling gems, industrious traders inflating the price artificially, magic draining from the world, technological improvements diluting magic, and omens of the end of the world. Generally speaking, most people believe that running out of magical gems will happen in their lifetimes, but it may cause changes to the political climate that may indirectly impact them.
