Nitrogen
Properties
Physical & Chemical Properties
It makes up about 75% of the atmosphere.
History & Usage
Industrial Use
Nitrogen is important for making fertilisers, nitric acid, nylon, dyes and explosives. It also helps preseve food because it provides an unreactive atmosphere. This also helps in the prodcution of transistors and diodes. Liquid nitrogen is used as refrigerant in the medical community and on the food side of things, it is ued to rapidly freeze food to maintain moister, flavor and such.
Environmental Impact
Nitrogen is cycled naturally by living organisms. Green plants and algae as take it in as nitrates, and use it as a base to construct DNA, RNA and all amino acids.
