BT - Session 2 Report: Lupine Diplomacy
"These are my thumbs, right?"
General Summary
At the local inn, The Shepherd's Crook, the party received free room and board. Word of their investigation into the wolf situation had spread and the villagers of Welton were all too happy to assist with whatever means possible. In the morning Poe was nowhere to be found. The group continued their investigation without him, solidifying the theory that something strange had happened when the local sorcerer had gone to deal with the wolves.
After collecting their lupine captive, the group set out into the forest to speak with the leaders of the pack. Along the way they were ambushed by a wounded and desperate owlbear. Making their way further into the forest they came across noisemaker traps and a makeshift fence around a large cave mouth. Several wolves guarded the area. Miko, falling victim to the noisemaker traps, alerted the pack of the group's arrival. However, with some smooth talking Pamaris was able to defuse the tense situation and make a request to speak with the leaders of the pack.
The pair of wolves that emerged from the cave argued in the common tongue and appeared infused with elemental energy. The tension between the two was clear as they argued the fate of the pack. Val's canny diplomacy seemed to be going well until one of the wolves, incensed at the idea of peace with the humans, turned on her mate. A brief battle ensued and she was struck down.
In the aftermath, Val concluded negotiations. Miko investigated the cave. Inside, he discovered the missing sheep, as well as tools and cave drawings. The pack led the party to the site where "The Lightbringer," presumably the missing sorcerer, fought the wolves before disappearing in a flash of light and leaving them with supernatural gifts. With the mystery solved and a potential solution at hand, the group headed back to Welton to discuss the offer with the town leaders.
